Miss America in Training...

We were playing at a friend's house today and they have this cool battery operated car. The kids were playing in it...Well, every time Easton drove Makenlee she would wave to us...I told my friend Becca. She looks like she is Miss America in a parade...M had this huge smile and she kept waving and waving....

The face of the waffle thief

So I was eating my yummy strawberry topped waffles this morning. M had finished her breakfast and E was still eating his. I got up to get something from the kitchen and this is what I found as I went back to the table.....
Stuffing it in her mouth...Maybe to disguise the evidence!!

Stuff stuff

Caught me!!!

BTW love the artwork on her arms. She decorated her arms I guess before breakfast. I did not even realize it till I looked at the pictures...

Dollywood

Some friends invited the kids and I to go to Dollywood Wednesday. They had some free coupons that expired this week so we had to use them up. We did have fun until the torrential downpour hit. Trying to get 8 kids out was a bit insane.
Before the rain hit...This was an area I had never been to before...Very cool play area for the kiddos. M seemed to like it.

E got to ride this all by himself...Kinda cool to not have to wait in line...

Waving to me.

The Bees is for sure E's fave ride...

New beds

Makenlee is out of her crib now. Sad day for me as I love the confinement of the crib but she was escaping so it was time....She lasted 5 months longer then Easton did in it. So she got E's twin bed and E got the full bed we had saved for him from CA.
All sprawled out in the bed...Sleeps like a king!!
Miss thing now needs bedding. Mommy;s working on it....

I am going there...

So there are some hills I will die on as a parent...The two biggies are car seat safety and health and wellness of my kids. I am a HUGE, avid researcher on all things kid related. Before I make a decision I have probably sat on the Internet, read a lot books, talked to some really smart Moms or well researched people, prayed and so on. I do not really make flippant decisions. My decisions are backed and I have documented research to prove my point.

So here in lays why I am going there....I have been asked over and over and over questions about why I do the things I do with my kids. Why our family is a bit different then others are. I am not a conventional Mom that follows one particular system or model. I take different ideas from various styles and make my own style. Different is not bad. I have never been a conformist and I really don't think I will. It just is not my personality. Also I realize more and more I am not the mainstream Mom. All these things that I have done for the last 4 years. That were not in the mainstream but slowly but surely coming to be mainstream...I am so thankful all the different things get publicity and make others think...

Anyway, I have always said you cannot put a price tag on safety and most important car seat safety. So here is where I am going.

So let me go into a dialogue I had at Bunko this week. A friend has twins a few months younger then Easton. She is needing to get new car seats b/c her 2 only go up to 40 lbs. She does not want to do a booster. Which I wholeheartedly agree with. Jon and I joke that if we could keep my 2 harnessed till 18 yrs old we would do it...5 pt harness is by far the safest...Anyway I digress. So she is not wanting to do a booster but can't afford to buy 2 car seats at $200 a pop for a seat that goes up to 65-80lbs. I told her about the Graco Nautilus which I have been looking at. It is a car seat that converts to a booster down the line. So another lady chimes in, you know how easy it is to use a booster. Blah blah....for her it is convenience. It is by far more convenient to have your kid jump into a booster then to securely harness them. Let me tell ya something...If I EVER got into a car accident and either 1 of my kids was in a booster and GOD FORBID something happened to them you know the guilt I would feel. You cannot put a price tag on safety. I would much rather throw down a couple hundred bucks to have my kid living, breathing on their own then it to be a bit convenient for me to have them hop in and pull the seat belt over their shoulder.....Now I know what you are thinking, Melissa you are going way overboard and being overly dramatic. Maybe a tad. But have I made a point. Is there truth in what I am saying. Now I am in this place where Easton is technically old enough now that he is over 4 years old to ride in a booster and he is nearly 40 lbs. Which they have to be both 4 years and 40 lbs before they ride in one. I will give him probably another year and then reassess to figure out if I even go there or not....I have met quite a few Moms who have their schoolage kid still 5 pt harnessed. But to me this is common knowledge. B/c I researched it but to some people they have no idea they have the option to keep their child harnessed. That is why I took the time to research my car seats and talked to moms with older kids who still harnessed.

I have also watched WAY TOO many youtube videos on car seat safety that just make you cringe and cry and cry.

If I have not scared you away there is a great post that someone wrote on MckMama 's blog. Here is what MckMama says about her....Laura Bower, a super sweet, generous friend who happens to be a car seat safety activist and the executive director of the Kyle David Miller Foundation

Here is a little snip it she wrote before on the blog
"Sometimes we can almost get into competition as parents. Well I breastfed Billy until he was 2 years old, no 3, no until he self-weaned at 4. Yes, well I cloth diapered to keep Sally's bottom chemical free. Yes but we only buy organic food/clothing/cleaning products. It can become obsessive to try to stay current with the latest guidelines and try to follow the vaccination debate. There are many facets to this and it is all done in the name of doing our best for our children. But there is one area where sadly many parents seem happy to just get by, and the irony is that it is probably the most dangerous of situations that we put our children in.....daily. What I'm talking about is when we put our children into a vehicle. Vehicle crashes are the number one killer of children ages 1 and up, above all diseases. And I'm here to share with you about keeping your children safe as it regards car seats in vehicles."

Want to read the rest of Laura's amazingly informative post about car seat safety? Please click here! Then click here to read about Kyle Miller. When I read the story about Kyle Miller a few years ago this is what got me so passionate about car seat safety. Both my kids stayed rear facing way past 1 yr of age. It is by far the safest. Now people will say, but what about their legs being folded, blah blah. It is by far better to have a broken leg if you are in a car accident then a broken neck b/c their bones are so soft and not quite matured. Now the AAP recommends till the age of 2. So I am not as quaky as you thought I was now am I....

I love Deals

I am a huge deal seeker. I love finding deals. I like getting cheap or free stuff. This was what I got at Target this week. I bought 32 items for a mere $18. Yep, most of it was free. The only thing I really was paying for was the frozen Bertolli meals since they were $4 something after coups. But b/c I bought 3 I got a $5 gift card so it sorta off set the purchase....Even better. All the rest was FREE or maybe .10 after coups!!
There is so much to know about coups. My friend, Audrey wants me to start a blog. But I have to come up with a catchy name....Anyway I have so many bottles of salad dressing right now but I am stockpiling it b/c rt. now all these stores have it on sale and the coups match the sale. Each store goes through a 12 week sale cycle. So 12 weeks the stores have there let's say frozen stuff on sale at rock bottom price then it maybe it goes to condiments/Salad dressing/BBQ sauces....If you stockpile during those times you get the best deals and it lasts you for awhile...Make sense!! I was getting Cottenelle toilet paper for free at Kroger and I had so many packs it was insane. I just recently ran out b/c I stockpiled it for 4 months or so.
Our church opened a food pantry and I now have some extra things to donate to. Love it!!
I used to do grocerygame.com back in CA. Then once we moved the deals were not so great since Kroger (Ralph's in CA) only doubled up to .50 cents. So if I had a $1 coup. I only got a $1.00 vs $2 like I did in CA....
So without further a do here is where I get my list for Target , Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, and Kroger

This is what Makenlee does....

at T-ball...She climbes the fence. No joke, this girl is part monkey. She never falls. She has crazy climbing skills....

Mommy there just in case...

I wonder if the view is better from there for her..HMM!

Then she sits still for a mere 5 seconds and then she's off on another great adventure

T-ball fun....

Easton has enjoyed his season playing T-ball. Some pics from last night's game.

Spicing lunch up

So Friday we stayed home all day and we played outside, played inside, did dress up. We had some fun at home. Well, it was close to lunchtime and I decided to let them eat in their costumes....Just to spice things up a bit....

Water fun

It is getting hot here...Not like scorching but it is warming up. I got all the water play stuff down from the attic the other day. Yesterday the kids played out back with the sprinkler. Easton keeps calling it,"Sparkle" I have no idea. He will walk around and I say,"I want to go get sparkled on." Ahh, we are not that kind of family son....

Arguing w/ Easton

Easton says to me, "Does Makenlee have a Y in her name?"
I said," No honey, Makenlee does not have a Y in her name."
E-"Yes, she does."
M-"No, she does not. Her name is M A K E N L E E"
E-"Well, at the hospital they put a Y in her name."
M "Ok, that was 2 years ago and I don't think you you knew your letters then."

End of convo

This kid cracks me up....how I love how his little brain thinks sometimes.

Elizabeth's Cloth Diaper Shower

I along with Elizabeth's SIL, Jordan, threw a cloth diaper shower for my sweet friend Elizabeth back in March. She came to Knoxville from Memphis for the fun. She is due any day with her Baby Girl. Her first is Haley, Easton's friend. I miss Elizabeth dearly and it was so good to see her while she was here.
Cute dipes courtesy of Makenlee's stash and Cute Tooties (best CD store, shout out to my dear friend Sunny)
